Devon Rural Network
The Devon Rural Network (DRN) was launched in 2003 by Lord Haskins. The DRN was set up to implement the Devon Rural Strategy developed by the Devon Strategic Partnership's time-limited Rural Task Group, which was launched in parallel with the Network.
The DRN is a partnership of voluntary, statutory and private-sector organisations, from grass roots through to regional level, who have joined together to act as a united voice for rural Devon. Currently the DRN has over 250 partners and 70 membership organisations across rural Devon.
The purpose of the DRN is to provide a coherent, united voice for rural Devon in order to:
- highlight perceived priorities
- provide lobbying potential and influencing messages as necessary
- counter any negative effects of external policies
The DRN has its own Action Programme which outlines work most appropriately undertaken by DRN and its partners to deliver the Devon Rural Strategy. Both the Strategy and the Action Programme are currently undergoing a refresh in 2007.
The DRN has a number of sector-specific Action Groups which act as forums for discussion around specific issues highlighted in the Rural Strategy. These are:
- Sustainable Farming and Food
- Sustainable Tourism
- Consultation Response
- Rural Voluntary and Community Sector
- Rural Business Support
- Environment Devon
Membership of the Devon Rural Network is by annual subscription and is open to organisations, agencies and partnerships at all levels, statutory and otherwise, working to support rural life in Devon. The DRN is not open to individuals or private businesses.
