Will my products qualify?
It is accepted that raw materials cannot always be sourced from within the county. A key criteria is that ‘added value’ is undertaken here in Devon and constitutes the last principal process undertaken in the fabrication of the product.
As an example, an artist may paint on base material, e.g. paper or porcelain, which cannot be produced, or is not financially viable locally. However, the ‘added value’ comes from the skill of the Devon artist’s work, which is what the consumer seeks to purchase.
In addition products must comply with EU and UK origin marking, trading standards and consumer protection legislation.
How do I join the scheme?
Following your application you will be visited by a representative of Devon County Council who will undertake an audit of your manufacturing processes.
The audit will seek to confirm that the goods you produce meet the criteria outlined above.

"We feel that the inclusion of Made in Devon has greatly enhanced the attraction of our furniture to people who purchase from our shop. Our retail staff consider that local people are very loyal to the West Country and its products and consequently consider it to be a great asset to our sales".Adrian DentonDevonshire Pine, Bideford | "As a one woman business it can be very hard to juggle the time needed for the creative side of the business alongside the very important time which is needed to promote and sell your work. The Made in Devon scheme is working to promote quality goods that are made in Devon and helping retailers find such goods and this can only be good for my business".Elizabeth TookeBowermead Publications |
