Local sourcing in the public sector

Public Procurement

Public procurementWe have commissioned F3 consulting to help us find ways to increase public procurement of local food in Devon.  The need for this was highlighted in the recent  Food Infrastructure Study.

F3 have been consulting with key organisations to identify what is working well in terms of local procurement and where the gaps are and identify some practical steps that DCC can take to support an increase in local sourcing.

-Outline the current volume and value of p. sector contracts to the Devon economy – value for economy, social impacts and reduced food miles.

-Identify the issues and barriers facing the local food and drink sector to secure public sector contracts  - such as skills needs, improved communications, distribution

-Defining appropriate interventions from DCC

-Working closely with SWF&D

A workshop is being held to discuss the findings from the research and these will be developed into a project / project outlines to try to secure funding to carry out these activities. The final report will be ready by the end of July.
