The Blackdown Hills Local Products Strategy - Leader+ Programme
The Blackdown Hills Local Products Strategy (LPS) is funded through the European Union's Leader+ Programme. This fund assists rural communities in improving economic activity and growth. Applications are accepted from Community Organisations, Voluntary Organisations, Consortiums or Co-operatives and Community or Social Enterprises. The programme supports exisitng businesses as well as helping to develop new enterprises.
Key sectors targeted through this programme are:
- Food and Drink
- Tourism and Recreation
- Arts and Crafts
- Woodland and Forestry
- Cross Sector Business
Funding is available for projects that impact on the parishes of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Grants are available for up to £8,000. The amount varies on the type of project and project applicant. Projects from groups working collaboratively or in partnership with other organisations and can show excellent value for money will be eligible for a higher percentage. Leader+ Funding cannot be matched with other Euroean funds but can use public, private or voluntary funds including volunteer hours.
The Blackdown Hills Local Action Group objectives are:
- To add value to local products and services
- Extend/strengthen micro-enterprise development and the employment base
- Promote environmental best practice and recognise the value of designations
- Actively promote the identity of the area
- Increase social inclusion
- Promote sustainability, with a particular focus on renewable energy
