British Citizenship

For some, becoming a British citizen may be a straightforward and relatively short process; for others it may be complicated and lengthy.

At the start of the process to becoming a British citizen Devon County Council provides the Nationality Checking Service from the Devon Register Office in Exeter.  Registered and specially trained Advisers are able to assist with the British citizenship application process.  A fee is payable for the service.  The service is available to any applicant, irrespective of where they live.

At the end of the process, the County Council organises citizenship ceremonies (both group and individual or family).  Group ceremonies take place at County Hall in Exeter approximately every six weeks.  Individual or family ceremonies are arranged as required at the Registration Office local to the applicant.  A fee is usually payable for an individual or family ceremony .
