You know there’s a lot of great stuff on the Internet, but you need to be careful about how you use it.
In the library you will be able to access all my web pages in The Zone and recommended sites, but if you do need to look at other sites, please get an adult to have a chat with the librarian.
Anybody can put things on the Internet, and many people just put what they think – they aren’t always right!
There's lots of really good information about how to stay safe online here - http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/
Remember, using the web safely and sensibly is up to you. If you see anything that worries or upsets you on the internet tell the librarian straight away.
If you're 12 or under, you can only use email or chat rooms on a library computer if you're surfing the net with an adult. If you're over 13, you will need to get your parent, guardian/carer or grandparent to give persmission.
Here’s some sound advice:
- Don’t give out information about yourself, like your address or telephone number or picture or even your school
- Don’t open emails from people you don’t know and don’t reply to messages that make you feel uncomfortable – tell an adult
- Don’t give your password to anyone – not even your best friend
- Never agree to get together with someone you meet online
If you want to save your work, you will need to use a CD or memory stick. If you don’t have one, you can buy one at the library counter.
You will have to pay for any printouts you do. Remember, colour ones are loads more expensive than black and white!
Working at a computer with a friend is fun, but please don’t bug other people by being too loud!
