You will need to ensure that the scheme complies with the requirements of the Hedgerows Regulations 1997. These require land managers to obtain the permission of the local planning authority before they remove most countryside hedges. These requirements apply to permitted development (ie highway schemes), but not to other works requiring planning permission.

If a scheme affects any hedges, it may have an impact on nesting birds. Nesting birds (78KB - pdf help) are protected by law and it is therefore necessary to ensure that the statutory requirements are met.
